About
Kimberly Engel is a contemporary abstract painter based in Cleveland, Ohio. Her distinct gestural style weaves together luminous color interactions with spontaneous mark-making, creating works that evoke depth, light, and movement. Inspired by the shifting moods of Lake Erie and the surrounding urban and natural landscapes near University Circle, Engel explores transparency and transformation through paint.
She describes her process as both an exploration of self and a dissolving of self—mirrored in the cycles of building and deconstructing each work. Her gestures are at once compulsive and graceful, undulating across the canvas before disappearing beneath delicate veils of color. Through this layering, Engel invites viewers into the paradox of capturing fleeting moments that unfold over many painting sessions.
Engel earned her BFA from the Cleveland Institute of Art. She has exhibited widely in Cleveland, Chicago, Raleigh, Camarillo, and throughout Florida. Her paintings are held in private and public collections, including Capright Corporation in Chicago and The Breakers Hotel in Palm Beach, Florida.
